Open Arms Kentville: Emergency Shelter Update :

Emergency shelter has been occupied every night with 2-5 guests (male and female) ranging from 16-67yrs. These guests have each been offered two meals along with having a safe warm place to sleep followed by a variety of peer supports. Beyond connecting guests with various professional services, we have been able to help two guests secure permanent housing over the place two weeks.
One current guest is served by a DCS worker out of Halifax who was aghast that we were not set up to receive a per diem for hosting her client. This "payment" would be assumed for the individual were they in Halifax. Minister Regan said our modest funding request would be discussed, but we have still received no word.
Volunteers are needed! If you are able to volunteer once every two to four weeks, please let us know...come see us at Open Arms or e-mail Cyndisouthall@openarms.ca
